Adding a video player for video files and ability to store in the Media Library.

Hi WM Team,

I think it would be nice for us to be able to add videos in a similar way that we can add pictures to both the documents and the media library. This would help with keeping instructional information in one place and enhance the reader experience. For example, we have recently created a staff instructional video, but this is currently being hosted in SharePoint. When people external to our company want to see it, it becomes a problem. If we could add a "video window" to the operational notification, this would significantly streamline media hosting and consumption.

  • We completely agree!
We used to have a video player many years ago, but back then it was not scalable considering file size.
Currently we are considering bringing video support back in a new and better way.
Thank you for the great idea :)

  • Hi Stefan Baudoin Bundgaard, has there been any further progress on the video support? We are currently looking to create best practice videos for our network and this would be a fantastic platform for us to share the content on.

    Thank you.

  • Good day, Jody,

Our engineering team is currently focused on large projects. We do plan to support videos eventually, but this won't happen in the near future. For now, we do support short videos in GIF format.

    We hope this information helps!

  • This would be a very useful feature for a number of customers as well.

Could you provide some guidance on what "short" means? Is there a recommended maximum duration, file size, or resolution for GIFs to ensure they perform well within Web Manuals?

I have a customer who would like to include instructional videos within their manuals, so it would be helpful to understand the current limitations while native video support remains on the roadmap.

    Thanks

  • Hi Nicky,

Currently our videos are below 3 mins, 720p res typically (filming on iPhones). We are trying to find the best way to show procedures in action to back up the standards we have and what they look like in our actual operation.

We mention the documentation that the process is from (in a text overlay). We don’t really intend to have long videos and if a topic will require more in depth coverage, we’d plan to break it down into bite sized chunks.

The intention is to keep below the 3min barrier and hopefully retain viewer attention.
