Abbreviations
We would like the option to remove the highlighting of abbreviations in documents. Instead, they could be underlined or marked in a less attention-demanding way.
It would also be useful if readers and/or administrators could choose to hide the visual marking of abbreviations while keeping the current hover function, so the full meaning still appears when the cursor is placed over the abbreviation.

Assuming there is a functionality to make the highlight optional, wouldn't it be confusing for your users to know that this is already an added abbreviation? How would they know they should hover? Or would you reckon this is a fair discoverability trade-off for less intrusive interruptions while reading the manuals?

Has anyone else noticed that if you have background colour and abbreviation set with the module doesn't capture the colour?

Thank you for your answer. I have asked your customer service to remove the highlight and that worked. Also fair point regarding any confusion for the reader. I have solved it in the introduction by referring to the MSM for a full list of abbreviations and that there is the possibility to hover over any abbreviation for the definition.

I love this idea! I'll take it a step further and make the recommendation to have the abbreviation have a self checker for first use in the document and either highlights for the editor or possibly spell it out for the editor. For example Global Positioning System (GPS) is what our first time use would look like. If the editor just said "The GPS is a....) the checker would flag that as first use or like I said spell it out.

I don’t think it would really reduce discoverability for our users. We’re all aviation professionals, so abbreviations are a normal part of the documents we work with every day.
The abbreviation would still be there in the text, and the hover function would still work, so if someone isn’t sure what something means, they can simply hover over it and the description will appear.
For us, it’s more about reducing the visual distraction. In manuals with a lot of abbreviations, the highlighting can become quite dominant and make the page feel unnecessarily busy. Having the option to turn off the highlighting, or perhaps use something more subtle like an underline, would make the document easier to read without losing the abbreviation functionality.
I think keeping the highlighting as the default, but allowing organisations or users to switch it off, would give everyone the best of both options.
