Restricted access to text sections/chapters

We are working on importing the Security Manual, and today I came across an interesting request from our security manager.

The Security Manual has three annexes A, B, C, and the security manager would like them to be part of the main manual instead of separate documents. Easy task, in principle, just adding the annexes as chapters of the main manual. However, the annexes are restricted to a few people.

In addition, the main manual has one chapter that should accessible only to crews.

Given these specific requirements, he is currently working with annexes as separate files, as well as two versions of the main manual, one of which he distributes only to crews.

Does WM envision having text sections or even whole chapters with role restriction or even password restriction? I understand the complexity but cannot deny that it sounds a lot interesting.

  • Hi Bruno,

we have separated manuals that need to be distributed to different user groups in order to give the right permissions as well. Your suggestion sounds very interesting indeed. Also we are working with categories that maintain documents that are required to read as well as some that are just for information and don’t need to be checked out or even be applicable in the Unread folder on the dashboard. It would be very helpful if the permissions could be set not only within a certain document page, but within the whole document, so we can distribute per document and not only per category.

  • Hello and thank you very much for the feedback. We love seeing our customers communicating!

I have been talking to the product team and they confirmed this function was actually available in the past, but it was extremely challenging to set up and maintain. For this reason, what you suggested will not be re-implemented at the moment as we are giving priority to more critical improvements.
This doesn´t mean that this decision cannot be reevaluated in the future :)

Thanks again and have a lovely day.

  • Hi

Another way would be to give permissions by Page Label.  So instead of restricting by page it would be restricted by label.  This would help the implementation across all manuals.
