Revision available before date
Hi, this case was reported to WM via a support ticket a long time ago, but I would like to share it in this forum. Maybe it is a common need.
Our internal procedure requires publishing new revisions of our OM-A/B and MEL a few days before the effective date, ideally a week before, for the sake of giving the crews some time to read and digest the coming changes.
I haven't found a solution in WM that allows me to make a new revision available while keeping the current version. The only way is to copy the manual and work with two documents, which isn't something we wish to do.
Does anyone else have the same need?

Only reviewer and editor/admin can access to the next revision.
So that my idea: define a new sub user type of reviewer (setting/user type) and change all your current reader into this new sub user type (manage user). Make sure that the new sub user type associated with role can NOT accept/refuse any page (because they are actually only readers within your organization. This can be set into the setting/workflow).
You will be able also to notify your readers of the next coming revision using the feature "Enable and notify Reviewers".
The inconvenient of this solution is, during your approval process, when set the next revision available for review, your readers will see also the next revision not already approved by your reviewers (even if their are not notified).
What do you think about this?

The main issue here is to "change all your current reader into this new sub user type (manage user)", as it isn't possible to do it in bulk. In my case, I would have to do it for around 500 readers (pilots) individually. If I also intend to do it for the Cabin Crew Manual, that's another 420 readers.

I tried also setting/pages and grant access the page review to reader. But I didn't figure out why is not working...
Can you try it on your side?

You're right. It doesn't show for Readers even though the option is available in Settings/Pages.

It is possible to make the revision available before the "From" date.
Click on Settings --> Revision Archive --> Set document on Time limited --> Tick the box "Allow Readers to view this Revision before "from" date":

What happens with the existing revision in this case? I remember to have tested this feature before but it was not satisfactory.
Hi again, a little bit more on this after some quick tests.
1. The option to allow readers to view before the revision date doesn't work in the current EFB app version, nor does it work in the current Beta version. The main purpose here is to allow the crews to view the revision in advance on their EFB. Any chance this will come into the EFB someday?
2. When publishing a revision, if I select Time Limited, define a future revision date AND select to send an immediate reminder, an email is received right after, but the email gives no indication that a future revision has been published. In fact, the email message basically shows the current revision number. The email should give a clearer indication.
3. When viewing a future revision on PC, the reader gets only a tiny little indication at the top (see below). If this is ever implemented for the EFB, a more obvious and bigger indication is necessary, for safety reasons.

After testing this feature, we noticed a bug (MANUALS-6954) that works correctly for Admins but not for Readers.
I will send you a ticket to keep you updated when it is fixed.
