A chapter is the top-level structural unit of a document in Web Manuals, corresponding to a Heading 1. Chapters organize your document into its major sections and act as containers for the pages within them.
Chapters are also what automatically populate your document's Table of Contents.
By default, chapters are numbered in the order they appear, but this can be adjusted per chapter under Advanced Settings if you need a different numbering convention (for example, using letters for appendices) or want to exclude a chapter from the Table of Contents entirely.
You can create a new chapter under Author → Page Structure:
- Click on Add Chapter in the left-bottom corner of the dialogue window.
- Give the chapter a title.
- Under Advanced settings, you can make the chapter unnumbered, exclude it from the Table of Contents and change the chapter number. If none of these settings are changed the chapter will be assigned the number according to the consequential order and will be displayed in the Table of Contents
- and click on Save.
