Files/Page Structure:
Instead of a Pages tab, the Navigation pane for Multi-File PDFs/OEMS features a Files tab. The Files tab provides a quick overview of all the individual files in your larger OEM/MultiFile PDF document. By clicking on the File name, you can quickly navigate between one file and another.
To view the Files tab:
- Click on the Author button at the top of the page.
- Select Page Structure. A navigation pane will appear on the left-hand side of the window.
- Underneath Navigation, you will see three Tab names: Files, Table of Contents, and Search.
If not already selected, click on the tab named Files.
When the Files tab is selected, all the files contained in the larger OEM/Multi-File PDF document will be visible. Clicking on a file's title will open up the first page of the selected file.
File Colors: What do they Mean?
The color of File icons represents 4 different states a File can have.
Black = Unchanged (default setting)
Blue = Revised
Green = New
Red = * Deleted.
* Because Manufacturers control OEM/MultiFile PDF Documents, files cannot be fully deleted to protect their integrity. Therefore, we added a feature that changes the colors of the File title to red to serve as a visual indicator that the file was intended to be removed.
If you accidentally upload a file in the wrong status (color), this can be changed all the way up until publishing. However, once the file is published, the file status & color will remain the same until it is updated in the next Revision.
Table of Contents:
The Table of Contents tab displays each file and its associated Heading levels.
NOTE: Headings will only appear in the Table of Contents if they were present in the source PDF file. If the PDF was not formatted with Headings, you will not see them in the ToC in Web Manuals.
To access the Table of Contents, you can either click on the Author button at the top of the page and select Table of Contents, or if the Navigation pane is already open, click on the tab titled Table of Contents directly to the right of the Files Tab (see below).
Search:
The Search tab is located directly to the right of the Table of Contents tab (see below). When a term is searched for, the system will only look within the currently open file, versus the entire Document.
Search results will show a list of pages where the searched term appears. Clicking on one of the pages will reveal the page, and where the searched term appears on it by highlighting it in yellow.
